David and Noel arrived back here around 7:00 p.m. They had a GREAT time at the Tank Museum! Here are David's comments about the trip: "The train ride was a pleasant ride through the beautiful English countryside through what looked like some wheat fields interspersed with trees, water, boats, beaches and beach goers. When we arrived at Wool Station, there were no taxis available but we sought out a bus which took us to the museum for one pound each. The museum was located across the street from the British Army Tank School where all tank driving and shooting tank gun training takes place. The museum is well funded and has a massive restoration facility. It also has three football-field-size rooms to house restored tanks. It has a copy of every kind of tank from the beginning to present day, including main battle tanks like the German King Tiger, the Russian T-34, the British Churchill and the American Sherman. All of the tanks looked as if they had rolled off the factory production line. Some of the tanks were set up to allow you to get inside them to experience the cramped quarters. While there the museum staff put on a mock tank batle that included pyrotechnics and an infantry attack. I would have had to spend another two hours to see everything in detail but had to leave to catch the train back to London. I will have to visit another time."
They came to our room and we talked about my day and their day and David showed me the t-shirt he bought at the museum. It sounded like they are glad they went!
It was time for dinner so we headed out again. Noel was going to show us the Soho area of London and we knew we would find a pub or tavern to eat at. We walked by a place called the Coach and Horses and liked the menu so decided to eat there. It was funny, tho, because Noel greeted someone right outside the pub -- it was his tailor from Dublin who is here on a buying trip. Small world! We had a delicious dinner. I had a baked potato with cheese and bacon on it, David had a vege burger made with mozzarella cheese and pesto and Noel had bangers (sausages) and mash (mashed potatoes). We each had a beer with our dinner and we all enjoyed it.
We continued our walk to the Soho area and passed David's toy store, Hamley's, and many designer stores. There were a ton of people out last night and the closer we go to Soho, the more people there were. It is a VERY trendy area with lots of young people out and about. A lot of people were drinking beer outside of the pubs and taverns one, because they can no longer smoke in bars and, two, because the weather was so warm and nice. Noel did not neglect to show us where the "entertainment" district was either with strip clubs, etc.
On the way home from our walk, we stopped at an Irish pub called O'Neill's, for a last beer. I had a beer, Noel had a cider and David had a whiskey. All very good! We visited while we had our drinks and then parted for the night. We arranged to meet for breakfast at 9:30 or half 9 as Noel would say on Friday -- our last day in London.
We got back to our hotel around 11:00 p.m., David read and I watched TV but we weren't up too long. We were both tired from a fun day!
